In the recent issue of nature Scientists from CCMB, Hyderabad, India and Harvard have pursued a new genome wide survey of human variation for the population in India. This is the featured article in the cover of the magazine. They catagorize the population into two groups, which emerged from two genetically divergent ancestors, viz., Ancestoral North Indians (ANI) and Ancestoral South Indians (ASI).

They observe that while ANI is genetically close to Middle Easteners, Central Asians, and Europeans, on the other hand ASI have distinct genetic signature and is not close to ANI or East Asians, asserting that they are of indigeneous kind of the subcontinent.

The data was collected from 25 diverse groups across India.
They conclude that Allele frequency difference is higher in India than in Europe. They further predict that there will be an excess of recessive diseases in India. The only way out is to screen and map genetically!

I read the verses of Rabindranath Tagore (No. 5 of his Gitanjali).
In these days of huge work pressure, I could not help but
indulge in a dream with my love and forget
my work.... there can be no other respite from the hardship, me thinks, other
than singing my heart's content to my beloved(!)

I ask for a moment's indulgence to sit by thy side. The works

that I have in hand I will finish afterwards.

Away from the sight of thy face my heart knows no rest nor
respite, and my work becomes an endless toil in a shoreless sea
of toil.

Today the summer has come at my window with its sighs and
murmurs; and the bees are plying their minstrelsy at the court of
the flowering grove.

Now it is time to sit quite, face to face with thee, and to sing
dedication of live in this silent and overflowing leisure.
